Nestlé Nespresso S.A., trading as Nespresso, is an operating unit of the Nestlé Group, based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Nespresso machines brew espresso and coffee from coffee capsules (or pods in machines for home or professional use), a type of pre-apportioned single-use container of ground coffee beans, sometimes with added flavorings. Once inserted into a machine, the capsules are pierced and processed, water is then forced against a heating element at high pressure meaning that only the quantity for a single cup is warmed. Nespresso is a premium price coffee, and by 2011 had annual sales in excess of 3 billion Swiss francs. The word Nespresso is a portmanteau of Nestlé and Espresso, a common mechanic used across other Nestlé brands (Nescafé, BabyNes, Nesquik). All Nespresso coffee is roasted, ground and encapsulated in one of three factories in Switzerland (Avenches, Orbe, and Romont),[5] but the company sells its system of machines and capsules worldwide, as well as the VertuoLine system in North America and certain other countries. / Master Origin Colombia washed Arabica showcases the farmers’ skill in tweaking the classic washed process to accommodate the exceptionally high altitudes at which their Fair Trade Arabica grows. They pick only the ripe fruit and attentively execute longer fermentation. The reward is a particularly fruity, sweet cup with a juicy acidity and red berry aromas.
ORIGIN The classic washed coffee processing method is complex and time-consuming, but up here it calls for even more skill. The Aguadas farmers figured out how to painstakingly harvest only the perfectly ripe fruit and then carefully monitor the long fermentation to ensure only the best aromas develop in the coffee. Master Origin Colombia washed Arabica shows how their savvy care results in a coffee that tastes not underdeveloped, not over- fermented, but just so.
ROASTING The Colombian Aguadas coffee in this Vertuo coffee capsule is lightly roasted. Most of this Fair Trade coffee is given a fast and light roast. We roast a small portion of these Colombian coffee beans just a little longer and deeper to add complexity in the cup.
